🎨 6-Week Progressive Paper Mâché Wall Sculpture / Augmented Reality Class - all ages!
Week 1: Introduction & Design Planning
* Overview of paper mâché and wall sculpture as an art form.
* Inspiration session: show examples (abstract, realistic, whimsical).
* Sketching: Students brainstorm and draw their sculpture design.
* Begin building armature (base structure) with cardboard, wire, or recycled materials.
Week 2: Building the Armature
* Continue refining structure for strength and scale.
* Introduce layering and attachment methods (masking tape, hot glue, wire ties).
* Discuss how to prepare surfaces for paper mâché.
* Homework: bring recyclable materials to use in sculpture.
Week 3: Paper Mâché Basics
* Demonstrate paste recipes (flour + water, glue mix and other options).
* Students begin layering paper mâché onto armature.
* Emphasize drying between layers and sculptural shaping with strips.
* Goal: 2–3 solid layers applied.
Week 4: Adding Detail & Texture
* Explore ways to add dimension (extra paper layers, cardboard cutouts, clay-like pulp).
* Demonstrate carving, folding, and building up surface areas.
* Students refine sculpture details and allow for thorough drying.
Week 5: Painting & Surface Finishes
* Introduction to acrylic painting techniques: color blocking, blending, washes, dry-brushing.
* Students paint base colors and build up layers.
* Optional: add texture with sand, tissue, or metallic finishes.
* Adding a fun Augmented Reality twist to the final piece!
Week 6: Final Touches
* Add final details: shading, highlights, decorative elements (beads, string, fabric, gloss finish).
* Seal sculptures with Mod Podge or varnish.
Materials we will explore:
* Cardboard, wire, recycled materials (for armature)
* Masking tape, scissors, utility knives (with supervision if kids)
* Newspaper, brown paper bags, or tissue paper
* Paper mâché paste ingredients (flour, water, optional glue)
* Acrylic paints, brushes, palettes, water cups
* Mod Podge or sealant
* Hanging hardware for wall display
*Augmented Reality fun to the final piece!

💡 Creative goals:
* For kids: simplify designs, encourage bright colors and imaginative themes (animals, monsters, masks).
* For teens/adults: allow for abstract, architectural, or more intricate sculptural forms.
*Adding the unexpected with an Augmented Reality twist once complete!
