6-week Progressive Private Art class - Augmented Reality Wall Sculpture for Danny

🎨 6-Week Progressive Paper Mâché Wall Sculpture / Augmented Reality Class - all ages!

Week 1: Introduction & Design Planning

* Overview of paper mâché and wall sculpture as an art form.

* Inspiration session: show examples (abstract, realistic, whimsical).

* Sketching: Students brainstorm and draw their sculpture design.

* Begin building armature (base structure) with cardboard, wire, or recycled materials.

Week 2: Building the Armature

* Continue refining structure for strength and scale.

* Introduce layering and attachment methods (masking tape, hot glue, wire ties).

* Discuss how to prepare surfaces for paper mâché.

* Homework: bring recyclable materials to use in sculpture.

Week 3: Paper Mâché Basics

* Demonstrate paste recipes (flour + water, glue mix and other options).

* Students begin layering paper mâché onto armature.

* Emphasize drying between layers and sculptural shaping with strips.

* Goal: 2–3 solid layers applied.

Week 4: Adding Detail & Texture

* Explore ways to add dimension (extra paper layers, cardboard cutouts, clay-like pulp).

* Demonstrate carving, folding, and building up surface areas.

* Students refine sculpture details and allow for thorough drying.

Week 5: Painting & Surface Finishes

* Introduction to acrylic painting techniques: color blocking, blending, washes, dry-brushing.

* Students paint base colors and build up layers.

* Optional: add texture with sand, tissue, or metallic finishes.

* Adding a fun Augmented Reality twist to the final piece!

Week 6: Final Touches

* Add final details: shading, highlights, decorative elements (beads, string, fabric, gloss finish).

* Seal sculptures with Mod Podge or varnish.

Materials we will explore:

* Cardboard, wire, recycled materials (for armature)

* Masking tape, scissors, utility knives (with supervision if kids)
