Little Masters: Drawing & Painting Adventures 6-Week Art Series for Young Artists

(Age 4-10)

Each session is 1 hour long.

Week 1: Line Explorers Focus: Introduction to Lines & Drawing Tools

Skills: Line recognition, pencil grip, tool control

Materials: Pencils, crayons, markers, drawing paper, yarn, pipe cleaners

Activities:

•- Draw different line weights, styles, etc.

•- Practice straight, curvy, zigzag, and spiral lines.

•- Create a 'Line Monster' filled with fun lines.

Week 2: Shape Up & Sketch Focus: Basic Shapes to Build Drawings

Skills: Drawing from observation, shape construction

Materials: Pencils, erasers, large paper, shape templates

Activities:

•- Warm-up: Draw and name basic shapes.

•- Create objects using shapes (robot, rocket, etc.).

•- Outline and color your creation.

Week 3: Paint Like a Pro – Brush Basics Focus: Brush Handling & Painting Techniques

Skills: Brush strokes, filling space, paint control

Materials: Watercolors or tempera, brushes, paper, water cups

Activities:

•- Practice dots, lines, and washes with different brushes. •- Paint a scene using basic shapes.

•- Create a 'Happy Place' painting.

Week 4: Look & Draw – Still Life Fun Focus: Observation Drawing

Skills: Looking closely, drawing from life

Materials: Real objects (toys, fruit), drawing paper, crayons or pastels

Activities:

• - Observe and describe a real object.

• - Sketch the object using basic shapes.

• - Add color with pastels or crayons.

Week 5: Mix It Up – Color & Emotion Focus: Color Theory & Mood

Skills: Mixing colors, associating colors with feelings

Materials: Paints, brushes, palette, paper, emotion flashcards

Activities:

• - Mix secondary colors using red, blue, and yellow.

• - Match colors to emotions.

• - Paint a face showing an emotion.

Week 6: My Masterpiece!

Focus: Combining Skills into a Final Art Piece

Skills: Composition, creativity, technique application

Materials: Choice of tools: pencils, markers, paints, paper- mixed media

Activities:

• - Plan and sketch your masterpiece.

• - Add color and finishing touches.

• - Title and sign your artwork!
